What Does "Made in the USA" Mean?

What does "Made in the USA" mean, anyway? Sometimes it doesn't mean much.

Today the Federal Trade Commission filed charges against the maker of Kwik Fix glue that it was "Made on the USA" but was actually made of mostly materials imported from overseas and then combined here.

“For many shoppers, a claim that a product is made in the U.S.A. is a big selling point,” Jessica Rich, Director of the FTC’s Bureau of Consumer Protection, said in a statement. “Companies should not overstate the amount of U.S. content their products actually contain.

For products that have the potential to seriously harm or kill Americans, consumers have a right to demand that the products they buy are correctly labelled.
